  • If the car donation charity sells the donated car without any improvement to the car, improvement, the car donation charity must send a written acknowledgement to the donor within 30 days of the sale certifying stating one of the following --
    • the asset was sold at an arms length transaction between unrelated parties
    • the amount of the gross sales proceeds
    • include a warning that the donor’s deduction is limited to the sales proceeds
  • If the car donation uses the donated car or makes material improvements to the donated car, the required written acknowledgement must be provided within 30 days of the car donation and must certify one of the following --
    • the intended use and duration of such use or the material improvements made to the donated car
    • the car donation was not sold for money, exchanged for property or services before completion of such use or improvements
